Centennial Music

Here at Centennial we take pride in all of our music programs. Our motto is “Learning by Doing.” Students of all ages begin to explore the world around them through multicultural musical experiences which emphasize a wide variety of musical concepts such as rhythm, pitch, dynamics, tempo reading and composing music.

Our diverse selection of pitched and unpitched percussion instruments offer the opportunity to apply musical knowledge which students gain as they grow through the music program from year to year. For example, during fourth grade general music, all students are given the opportunity to further their musical education by learning the basics of the soprano recorder. General music in the fifth and sixth grade years continues to expand upon the musical foundation students have achieved through use of soprano recorders, Orff keyboard instruments and guitar.

Centennial offers four different performing groups for students in which students can apply their musical learning.  Once students reach fifth grade they are allowed to continue with their instrumental music education through our excellent band, orchestra, and guitar programs. Additionally, an after school choir is available beginning in third grade. The choir currently meets once a week from 2:15-3:30 every Tuesday.  Each ensemble, band, orchestra, guitar or choir, has multiple performance opportunities each year, including several on a district level, where students can showcase their hard work and musical excellence.

Music is an important part of the Culture of Excellence in the Flowing Wells School District. We here at Centennial Elementary are dedicated to upholding that standard of excellence by preparing our students to succeed in whatever area of music they choose to pursue.
