Physical Education

Centennial Elementary School Physical Education

In the physical education program at Centennial, all students will follow “SPORT” in order to build self-confidence, social skills and problem solving skills in different situations.

S-PORTSMANSHIP: holding yourself, peers and teammates to a high standard that is supportive, kind and polite regardless of the environment or situation.

P-ARTICIATION: the expectation that students will give 100% effort in all activities, lessons and games whether or not they are confident in their physical or social abilities.

O-RGANIZATION: being spatially aware while moving and completing task as well as handling all equipment while using or storing.

R-ESPECT: for yourself, teachers, teammates, opposing teams, referees, supporters and equipment. Creating an environment where all students can learn through feeling successful, even if mistakes are made.

T-EAMWORK: students will be accepting of all coordination levels while working together to accomplish a common goal.

When creating each lesson, a variety of teaching methods are considered in order to educate all learners. All students are expected to work toward an individual goal throughout each lesson. Each student creates a realistic mental goal  before each class in order to push themselves outside of their comfort level physically or socially.

Kindergarten students through 6th grade students receive P.E. every 3 days. Kindergarten students only receive a grade for behavior while 1st through 6th graders receive grades for behavior and skill development.

Intramural Sports

CO-ED sports such as flag football, 3 on 3 basketball, whiffleball and soccer are offered to all fourth, fifth, and sixth graders before school between 7:30am – 7:55 a.m. One sport is chosen by students per semester as each team will play at least four games per session.

After School Sports

In the Flowing Wells School District, 5 sports are offered throughout the school year. Volleyball, Flag Football, Girls’ Basketball and Boys’ Basketball are all offered to only 5th and 6th grade students. Cross country is offered to students in 2nd grade through 6th grade. Games and races are scheduled against other Flowing Wells Elementary Schools to allow the students participate in a positive environment while practicing sportsmanship in a competitive setting.
